MABUL ISLAND

Trip to Mabul Island

Clear crystal water of Mabul island...... We can see the bottom of the sea from afar from the island, really amazing.

The children own their small boat since they are small, you can see them fishing in the sea or join them in playing those traditional games that seldom known by city youngsters.

We could get free fish from the boatman too if you see them passing by before they passed it to those sellers.

Actually Mabul does not have nice beaches like those in West Malaysia, but there are great for the underwater view.

I bet that's the most beautiful underwater scene I have seen compared it in many islands in West Peninsular, even the islands on the other side of Sabah (Kota Kinabalu side, the West China Sea) is not as beautiful as the Celebras Sea side here. So if you are an avid fans of diving, or sea lovers, it is a must to visit here once in a life time, you will know how beauty it is the living creatures under the sea.

SIPADAN ISLAND

Sipadan, Sabah

Further south off the seas of Semporna lies Sipadan, Mabul & Kapalai islands. Sipadan is Malaysia's diving haven. Rated as the top dive destination of the world, it has since applied for the World Heritage Site status. Free of dive operators, the island is now maintained by Sabah Parks.

This unique outcrop yoometres from the ocean floor, has provided a sanctuary for more than 3000 species offish, including Grey Reef Sharks, Great Barracudas, Eagle Rays, Hammerhead Sharks and Manta Rays just to name a few, with scores of colourful Anthias and Butterfly Fishes set to be your eye candy as you comb the reef along the walls. The ever present currents on both sides of the island, challenges the diver to drift along or nn alongside the almost stationary school of Jacks or the whirling barracudas in numbers exceeding a thousand. On the more shallow reefs near the surface, drifting along with the numerous Sweetlips and Surgeonnsh with almost perfect visibility makes you feel like you are in a borderless aquarium.

BUKIT GEMOK PARK

Once very rich wildlife, the calls of gibbons were common, and so were elephants at the foothills and orangutans up on the trees.
Today, these animals are gone.
However, people have seen long-tail macaques, squirrels, short-tail macaques, wild boars, barking deer and even the sambar deer. There are more bird species, including a few species of hornbills, as they can fly from other nearby forests....

MADAI CAVES

The Madai Caves are important caves in Sabah for harvesting birds' nests. These nests are considered a delicacy and medicine among the Chinese with a huge export market to China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The village at the entrance of the largest cave comes alive twice a year when the Idahan people come to harvest the birds' nests from various parts of the caves. It is a special communal festival event.

The harvesting is a dramatic event with the men risking their lives to pry precious nests from the cave roof high above.

The Idahans held their rights to the Madai Caves for over 20 generations.
